Common and Proper Nouns

A common noun is the name of any person, place, thing, or idea. For example, the noun country is a common noun because it refers to a non-specific place. A proper noun is the specific name of a person, place, thing, or idea. For example, the noun Canada is a proper noun because it is the name of a specific place. It's the name of a country located in North America.
